# Jobs: pin record types to the menu

> Pin up to five entries so your most used record types sit in the menu and lead the New menu, and see why a sixth pin is refused.

Your workspace may use a different word for its work; the screens are the same.

A pin puts a record type in the menu so your team reaches it in one click. A towing workspace might pin Towing Service and Jump Start. A law firm might pin Consultation and Litigation.

## Pin or unpin a type

1. Open **Settings**, then **Work & terminology**, then **Record types**.
2. Turn on the **Pinned** switch on the type's row. Turn it off to unpin.

Only an active, published type has a switch. Owners and admins pin. A pin is not a security setting, so you are not asked to confirm it is you.

## Where pins show

- **The menu.** A **Pinned** group appears after the **Billing** group. A pin you add opens that type's list and reads the type's plural, such as Towing Services. The main entry then reads All followed by your plural word, such as All Calls.
- **The New menu.** Its **Work** group lists the pinned types first, then the other types, up to six in all. **More types…** opens the full list.

Pins show in the order they were added. A new pin goes to the end.

## Pins from your business type

A business type can pin a type's create form. That entry reads the type's create button, such as New Towing Service, and opens the form. A business type can also pin the list and the board. Those count toward the five, but they add no entry to the **Pinned** group.

These list and board pins are shown on the **Record types** tab under **Other menu shortcuts**. Select **Remove** next to one, such as **Remove Calls board**, to free its place.

Turning off a type's switch removes every pin of that type.

## Five at most

A business can have up to five pins. When five are set, the other switches are off and say **Up to five types can be pinned. Unpin one first.** If a sixth pin reaches the server some other way, it is refused with the same rule. The same entry cannot be pinned twice.

## Good to know

- **Your business type adds pins.** Choosing a business type adds its pins while there is room. Pins you already have are kept, and any beyond five are left out.
- **Archiving unpins.** Archiving a type removes its pins. Restoring it does not pin it again.
- **Pins belong to one business.** Each business in a workspace has its own.
- **Your pins are a choice.** Once a person changes the pins, a later business type keeps the words you have.
