Your referral link and who gets credit

Which partner links work today, how a workspace gets attributed to you, why one may not be, and how Add a referral and the referral API behave.

Last updated Web

Your partner code is a short code of eight letters and digits. It travels inside your sign-up link. A workspace is attributed to you when its owner signs up through that link, or when you registered that person's email as a referral first. Nothing else counts. There is no cookie, and there is no box to type a code at sign-up.

Link What it is
Short link (for print and conversation) billingmart.com/p/ followed by your code. It redirects to the direct link. The QR code and Download QR (SVG) encode this one.
Direct link (where the short link lands) The BillingMart sign-up page with your code attached.
Partner code The code on its own. It is for your reference. You cannot type it into the sign-up page.

Both links reach the same sign-up page. The page keeps the code for that visit only, in the browser. If the person closes the browser and signs up another day from the plain sign-up page, nothing links them to you. Ask them to use your link again.

The Campaign link (UTM) form adds source, medium and campaign tags to a link so a link can say where it was shared. BillingMart does not report by tag, and the tags do not change who gets credit; only the code does. The same page lists the disclosure wording the program asks you to show beside a link. Use it as written.

Why a workspace may not be attributed

Attribution runs once, when the workspace is created. It is skipped silently when:

  • the code does not belong to any partner;
  • your account is not active, for example while it is suspended;
  • the new owner is your own partner sign-in, or has exactly your contact email;
  • the workspace is already attributed;
  • the workspace is a sandbox;
  • the code was lost before sign-up: a different device or browser, blocked site storage, or a sign-up in the iPhone or Android app, which send no code.

Nobody is told when this happens. If a workspace you expected is missing from Referred workspaces, write to partners@billingmart.com with its name and the sign-up date.

Add a referral

Use Add a referral when you have already spoken to someone. Enter their name and email. The note is only for you.

  1. Select Register and invite.
  2. For any address it accepts, the portal answers Referral received. It never says an address belongs to another partner or already has a workspace. It refuses your own address, a registration over your daily limit, and badly formed fields, with a message.
  3. When the address can be referred, BillingMart emails the person an invitation with your link and the referral appears in your list.

The invitation may not go out. An address on BillingMart's do-not-mail list (opted out, bounced or marked as spam) gets none, and neither does one registered after your daily invitation limit. The referral is still recorded, and you are not told. A registered referral lets the person's signup be attributed to you without your link, until the referral window ends. The list shows Invited, Signed up and Paid. Paid appears once the workspace has made its first payment.

The referral API

Settings has an API keys card. A key lets your own system register referrals the same way Add a referral does, with the same single answer.

  1. Select Create a key, give the key a name and list the IP addresses it may be used from.
  2. Copy the key when it is shown. It appears once and cannot be shown again.
  3. Send it as an Authorization: Bearer header from one of those addresses.

A request from any other address is refused. The card needs your second sign-in step, and creating or revoking a key also needs a recent sign-in. See Partner tax form and sign-in security. A suspended account can still revoke a key but not create one.
