Create and share a payment link
Make a link or QR code that takes a payment without an invoice, choose its price and limit, share or email it, and change, disable or replace it.
A payment link is a web address and QR code that takes a card payment without an invoice. You choose the price, an optional limit and an optional end date. Owners and admins make and change links. Owners, admins and staff can email them. Until card payments are set up for your workspace, payers see that you have not finished setting up payments.
Make a link
- Open Payment links and select New payment link.
- Choose a Purpose: Services, Ticket, Payment, or Donation. Donation appears only for a verified nonprofit workspace. Add a Name the payer sees if you want one. Without it the payer sees the purpose.
- Choose how it is priced.
- Fixed price: every payer pays the same amount.
- Payer chooses: the payer enters an amount between your minimum and an optional maximum. The form refuses a minimum below its lowest allowed amount and says what that amount is when you try to save.
- Tiered: the price rises as payments come in, for example the first batch at one price and the next at another. A tiered link must be reusable, needs at least two tiers and a limit, and its last tier cannot end after that limit.
- Choose Reusable or One-time. A one-time link takes one payment, then closes. This choice and the currency cannot be changed later.
- Set a Limit if you want one. You can show the payer how many remain.
- Set Takes payments until if you want an end date. The link stops at the end of that day in UTC, so in the Americas it can stop in the afternoon or evening.
- Select Create link. The link is active at once.
The drawer checks every rule before it saves and shows the problem next to the field. If your workspace has the optional customer card fee, the drawer also offers Add a fee the payer pays. See How your customers pay for what the payer sees.
A new link counts toward your monthly sends only when a payment arrives through it. At your plan's limit you cannot create a link or reactivate one, but payers are never turned away from a link that is already live. See What counts as a send.
Share it
Open the row menu and choose Share. You get a QR code, the web address, Copy link and Download QR. Choose Send by email on an active link and pick a client. The link goes to their email address, a confirmed one if there is one, and the send is logged. If the client has no usable email address, the send is blocked and says so. Emailing a link does not count as a send.
What the payer sees
The payer sees the name, the price, and any fee before they continue. The payer form has an optional email box, and the receipt goes to the address the payer types there. The confirmation shows the total charged, including any link fee. On a tiered link they also see when the price rises. When they press Continue, the page holds one place for them for two minutes. If the price changed in the meantime, the page shows the new price and asks them to confirm. If the place runs out, they start again. A declined card returns them to the start.
| Link state | What the payer sees |
|---|---|
| Sold out | Sold out, and the link takes no more payments |
| One-time, paid | This link has been paid |
| Disabled, ended, or replaced | This link is no longer taking payments |
| Paused after repeated declines | Payments are paused for now |
Change, disable, replace
- Edit changes the settings. A limit cannot go below the payments already taken.
- Disable stops the link at once. Reactivate turns it back on. A one-time link that was paid cannot be reactivated, so make a new link.
- Share, then New link, gives the link a new address. The old address and QR code stop working at once, and a pause from declines ends.
Note: Five declines on one link within a day pause it for a day and tell you. Reactivating or replacing the link ends the pause.
